How to Maintain Your Solar Batteries
Your batteries are the heart of your solar system. Proper maintenance can mean the difference between 5 years and 15 years of service.
General Best Practices
Regardless of your battery chemistry, follow these rules:
- Keep them Cool: Excessive heat is the number one killer of batteries.
- Avoid Deep Discharges: Try not to let your batteries drop below 20-30% capacity regularly.
- Check Connections: Ensure all cables are tight and free of corrosion.
Specific Maintenance for Lithium Batteries
Lithium-ion batteries are mostly self-sufficient, but you should still monitor their State of Charge (SoC) through your inverter's app. Here is a sample JSON structure of what a battery monitoring API might return:
json{ "battery_id": "LITH-9921", "status": "Healthy", "soc": 85, "voltage": 52.4, "temperature": 28.5, "cycles": 142 }
If you notice the temperature rising above 45°C consistently, consider adding ventilation to your battery room.
